SwitchYard believes your vacation begins the minute you leave your house. With that in mind, we set out to design a place that provides families with a welcoming place to stop during their journey and gives both kids and parents the chance to rest and recharge before hopping back in the car.

We started by asking ourselves: Why is road travel with kids so stressful?

The answer surprised us.

We realized that no single brand was meeting all of a family’s road trip needs, and some of those needs were not met by any brand at all.

This inspired us to create SwitchYard: A whole new concept in travel hospitality that focuses on what parents need to feel confident when they hit the road.

What makes SwitchYard different?

The ideal road trip stop allows everyone in the car to get what they need: A place to get the wiggles out. Bathrooms so clean you don’t wince when the toddler plants her hands on the floor. A quiet, private place for a mom to feed her baby. Fresh food options you feel good about giving to your toddler (and you don’t have to nag her to eat). Comfortable, nature-filled spaces where you, your kids, and your pets feel welcome and cared for.

Playgrounds & Patios

SwitchYard locations are different from the average travel plaza because our on-site fueling option is EV charging instead of gasoline. By embracing clean mobility technology, we can offer innovative amenities that blur the lines between indoors and outdoors and allow you to enjoy fresh air and sunshine during your rest stop. We believe that nature is the most restorative amenity of all, which is why you will find green spaces, outdoor playgrounds, and covered climatized dining patios at every Switchyard.

To EV or not to EV?

While clean fuel technology allows SwitchYard to offer unique outdoor amenities, we realize that most families hit the road in a gasoline-powered vehicle. SwitchYard locations are carefully chosen to ensure convenience to at least one gas station so our guests in traditional cars and trucks can have a quick fill-up before or after their visit.

Created by moms for moms

We want mothers and babies to feel as comfortable at SwitchYard as they do at home. That’s why you’ll find well-equipped nursing mothers’ rooms in every one of our locations, complete with gliders, drinking fountains, sinks, microwaves, outlets, and a private, restful environment to feed your baby.

It shouldn’t be hard for dads to help out

We were shocked when we visited one of America’s most up-and-coming travel plaza brands and were told there was no family restroom. SwitchYard knows that dads sometimes travel without moms, and at every SwitchYard you will find family restrooms as well as top-notch diaper changing facilities in both the men’s and women’s restrooms.

Local everywhere

One of the joys of a road trip is the chance to experience new places along the way. SwitchYard gives families a recognizable brand they can count on to have the amenities (and chicken fingers) they need, while offering a unique, localized experience in every location. If you make three stops along the way to your destination, we’ll give you a reason to stop at SwitchYard every time. We make each location unique by incorporating local flavors and products into our menus and boutiques, and by customizing the décor of each store to reflect the unique aspects of the surrounding community.

You’ll never find a SwitchYard on an otherwise empty exit. SwitchYard chooses locations that are gateways to vibrant, welcoming small towns and we work hard to become part of the fabric of the local communities we serve. SwitchYard strives to be a place where parents come to take a break, whether they’re coming from the next state over or five minutes down the road. With seasonal events, live music weekends, draft beer, and wine by the glass, SwitchYard offers our local guests the opportunity for a babysitter-free date night where they can get some time for an uninterrupted conversation while the kids play and explore.
